BLUF: In need of your assistance in responding to an anonymous claim regarding unauthorized destruction of Epstein Files.

IMD received a letter from NARA (2 $ ^{nd} $ attachment) based on a media report (1 $ ^{st} $ attachment) the FBI was allegedly destroying records related to Epstein. Specifically, page 5 in the media report stats: “There are FBI servers,” said ex-agent-turned-whistleblower Garret O’Boyle, “and people inside the FBI have been working night and day to destroy files on these servers.”

Any time there is an allegation of unauthorized destruction, NARA contacts the agency involved requesting additional information to either properly report the destruction and/or provide sufficient information that the allegation is unfounded. They also post this information on their public-facing website.

Upon receipt, IMD contacts INSD for action. In this instance, INSD advised that they would not conduct an investigation without specific allegations such as date, documents, name, etc. IMD is in a position to audit emails/records in Sentinel, but we are not in a position to determine whether records outside of Sentinel have or have not been destroyed, nor are we in a position to conduct an investigation of such an allegation.

Before we are able to respond to NARA, we have to “provide sufficient information to support that finding.” Would like your team’s input on other actions we can take to review these claims and respond accordingly.

I’ve cc’d our Division POCs (Agency Records Officer and Unit Chief) and our Division Counsel ( ) that can work with your teams to research further and a draft a response.

Thank you,

After discussion with INSD IAU, ITID, and InTO, I have come to a dead end. I don’t believe we have any way to corroborate these allegations.

Please take a look at what I drafted, and I’m happy to chat more about it. NARA asked for a response by 4/30, but we can always request an extension.

Thanks,

Good afternoon,

EFTA00173346

The National Archives and Records Administration’s (NARA) Chief Records Officer contacted the Information Management Division (IMD) requesting investigation into a potential unauthorized destruction of FBI records. NARA learned of the allegations from a news article.

Both the NARA letter and the news article are attached for reference.

By this email, IMD is requesting INSD’s assistance in investigating this potential unauthorized destruction. NARA has requested a response by April 30, 2025.

Thank you in advance for your assistance with this matter.
