DOJ and FBI emails on Epstein's SHU observation status and draft letter to Congress

Internal DOJ and FBI emails discussing Jeffrey Epstein's psychological review at MCC New York and a draft letter to Congress about his custody.Machine-written summary

the case team just got back to me. In addition to our concerns about the Warden’s status and whether he has actual been notified of any administrative action they indicated the following:

Regarding the 4th paragraph. We have not heard of the terms, “special observation status”. The protocols in the SHU are such that every 30 mins a guard is supposed to conduct a round through the cell block to check on the prisoners/cells. This is unrelated to a prisoner’s psychological evaluations. Additionally, Epstein was still under psychological review, which meant he was having regular interaction with the MCC psychologist, but was under no special observation.

Let me know if this is helpful or if you have additional questions.

Best Regards,

Received attached and below from DOJ. For NYFO input.

Subject: Draft letter to Congress on Epstein

I forwarded this earlier to but heard he may be out of pocket. ran the substance of this letter by NYFO last night and told me that there were no particular concerns with the substance. We are trying to finalize and send to Congress by 5 if at all possible. Can you try to run this by NYFO and see if there are major concerns?
