SDNY prosecutor and FBI email exchange on seized device evidence matching, Sept–Oct 2020

Emails between an assistant US attorney and FBI forensic examiners matching seized drives and thumb drives from New York and Virgin Islands searches to evidence numbers before a discovery deadline.Machine-written summary

I’ll see what our evidence folks say. I’ll let you know.

Thanks so much for this—really appreciate it. If there is any way to get the last 1B numbers this week, I would be very grateful. Our final discovery deadline is November $9^{\text{th}}$, and we’re running out of time to complete our reviews and prepare all of our productions in time to meet that deadline.

One follow up question: In some instances, it appears that multiple CART numbers fall under the same 1B number. Why would that be?

Thanks again,

Of course, I returned most of this stuff to evidence control literally last week, however I was able to get most of the information for you. See below in red. I will physically have to go to evidence control in the Bronx to look at the items that are missing. I can do that next week, as I have to go to the Bronx anyway. If that is not soon enough for you, let me know and I’ll up the timeline.

As far as the drives that need rebuilding/recovery, I have not been able to get much traction on that due to the whole Covid thing. I will double the effort. Keep in mind, that even with the best of efforts, this process may not be successful. Just setting expectations.

Thanks very much, . I’ll give you a call tomorrow.

In the meantime, I’ve been going through the attached spreadsheets trying to line up the CART evidence numbers that used to identify each device (contained in the spreadsheet entitled “evidenceStatuts20200729”) with the 1B numbers and FBI barcode numbers that and used to identify those same devices (contained in the spreadsheet entitled “JE Evidence seized”). I’ve been able to match up most of the devices, but I’m still lost on the below:
