Dear¶
Thank you for letting us know about the press inquiry and for your confirmation that you won’t be commenting.¶
I can assure you that the characterisation of your involvement has not come from the FCA. I have made our press office aware of your concerns - we do not currently intend to make any comment about the investigation at all.¶
- We just got a press inquiry from the Financial Times as follows:
I’m working with colleagues in London about a story that DOJ had passed information to the UK FCA about Jes Staley’s relationship with Epstein.¶
You might have seen this morning that Barclays disclosed the UK’s FCA and PRA are investigating Staley’s statements about his links to Epstein.¶
I wanted to check if there was any steer or background you could give me on the information DOJ passed to the UK authorities? And also if you had any comment?¶

We will not comment, and I similarly assume this is not coming from FCA either. But we were obviously concerned by this inaccurate characterization of our involvement in your inquiry and would appreciate it if you would relay to your press team, should they be asked, our strong desire that our conversations with you not be part of any reporting on this matter.¶
Thanks,¶

Dear¶
By way of update, you may have seen that the fact of our investigation has been announced by Barclays this morning.¶
Other than confirming our investigation, we are not making any public comment on the matter at this stage. I wanted to let you know in case you receive any press queries, and are asked for comment. I suspect that you may not in any event, but we should be grateful if you would not provide any comment relating to our investigation and the subject of it. If that causes you any issues or you would like to discuss further, please do let me know.¶
I also wanted to inform you that I will be out of the office next week and therefore if you have any update for us, I would be grateful if you could let Nick know as soon as possible.¶
Kind regards¶
