Can you call me

Lee Plourde lplourde@bop.gov 8/26/2019 3:10 PM >>

Today at approximately 7:45 am there was a flood on 2nd floor ( Unit 2, medical sally port) and 2 pieces of clothing found in the drain pipe that was retrieved while snaking the drain from a toilet in the cell. To prevent water damage to our elevators we had to temporarily suspend all visits in the institution.

The appropriate PPE was on site to expedite the cleaning of this incident. As of now the institution has resumed normal operations and sanitation is completed. If you should have any further questions and or concerns please feel free to contact me.

Thank you.

Mike,

This just came in below with a deadline of 3 pm.

Perhaps Lee could draft something as best he can on short notice for our review(in case I'm advised to answer this reporter at 3)?
Thanks,
Justin

Hello,

My name is Jake Offenhartz and I’m a reporter with Gothamist and WNYC, working on a story about reports we’ve received of raw sewage flooding jail cells and common areas at the Metropolitan Correctional Center. We’re also told that female detainees are being asked to clean up the mess — wondering if BOP can confirm, and would like to respond?

Additionally, attorneys say their clients were denied visitation rights this weekend because of staffing shortages. In the wake of Epstein’s suicide, what steps has the BOP taken to address staffing issues at the facility?

We’ll have a story up around 3 p.m. I can be reached here or by phone at 914 500 3940

Jake
